Closing the people gaps

The transformational power of people and demand in energy transitions

As the world accelerates toward a future requiring more and better energy, one critical element is often overlooked: people. Progressing successful energy transitions is not simply a technological or financial challenge, but a fundamentally human one. Without the active engagement, empowerment, and inclusion of people and communities – and full consideration for consumer demand – the promise of clean, reliable, and affordable energy for all will remain out of reach.

Through the topic of 'Closing the people gaps,' leadership conversations at World Energy Congress 2027 will explore the transformational power of people and demand in energy transitions, and how we can ensure modern energy systems are accessible, reliable, affordable and fair, particularly for underserved populations.

A look at what's to come

Sessions will include:

A new age of pragmatism

Collective wisdom must now translate into decisive action. The world needs less debate and more delivery. This session explores how practical cooperation, shared learning and grounded optimism are accelerating progress. Cross-sector leaders share how they are moving from ambition to implementation in culturally aware and system-aligned ways that build confidence and sustained momentum.

Tomorrow’s energy now: New genres and next generations

The next generation isn’t waiting its turn -  it is shaping energy decisions today. In this interactive exchange, young innovators, entrepreneurs and professionals challenge seasoned senior executives to accelerate action and re-imagine energy for their futures. Together they explore how education, hands-on experience and supportive ecosystems unlock talent, accelerate delivery and build energy systems that are more inclusive, productive and resilient.

World Energy Women

Energy transitions have the potential to completely transform structural, intergenerational and gender inequalities. Involving women, half of the world’s population, as peers in the global energy transition process is one of the most powerful levers we can pull as we redesign energy systems for billions of better lives on a healthy planet. Through short sparks and facilitated table conversations, women leaders and allies will identify regional priorities, exchange practical best practices, and build leadership connections.

Realising success beyond supply

Meaningful energy access isn’t just about what’s delivered - it’s about what demand can unlock. This session shifts the focus from supply to demand-driven access - moving beyond individual connections to coordinated demand across households, businesses and energy systems. We’ll surface the blind spots in current strategies and highlight the practical solutions that can deliver lasting improvements in livelihoods, productivity and quality of life.

Beyond basic access: Achieving better energy for better lives

Universal energy access remains a defining challenge of global transitions. This session explores how access must evolve beyond basic supply to support livelihoods, productivity and community development. Speakers examine what it really takes to improve reliability, affordability and quality -spotlighting solutions that can anticipate future needs and deliver fair, lasting benefits for people everywhere.
