World Energy Council hosts Road to Riyadh event at China Clean Energy Expo in Beijing

Our Road to Riyadh event, co-hosted by World Energy Council and the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia, took place during the China Clean Energy Expo in Beijing, engaging attendees and strengthening collaboration across China’s energy ecosystem. The strategic gathering convened global experts, policymakers and corporate leaders from across the full clean power supply chain, from generation and storage to transmission and applications at a pivotal moment for global energy transitions, marking an important milestone on the Road to Riyadh and advancing preparations for World Energy Congress 2027.

In partnership with the China Electricity Council (CEC) and with a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia, led by Dr Naif Alabaddi, Advisor to the Minister for Electricity Affairs and Chair of World Energy Congress 2027, Congress representatives engaged key stakeholders across China’s energy ecosystem. As the world’s largest producer and consumer of energy, China continues to demonstrate its defining role in shaping the pace, cost and direction of global energy transitions, with its rapid build-out of renewables and clean technology supply chains highlighting why engagement with Chinese partners remains critical to navigating the next phase of energy systems transformation.

A press briefing was also held with Chinese and international media, featuring World Energy Council Secretary General and CEO Dr Angela Wilkinson, together with the Saudi delegation, with representatives underscoring the urgency of global energy transitions, sharing Saudi Arabia’s energy industry priorities, and reinforcing the core values of the Congress as an inclusive, secure and forward-looking platform for global energy dialogue.

World Energy Congress was also prominently represented on the China Clean Energy Expo exhibition to engage key stakeholders, build partnerships, and share insights. The technologies, partnerships and engagement seen in Beijing reinforced the importance of sustained China–Saudi cooperation and highlighted the central role of World Energy Congress 2027 in convening leaders from across the full energy ecosystem to deliver an inclusive, secure and affordable energy future.
